This article will demonstrate preventative maintenance for general computer slowness.

1. Restart your Computer
Restarting your computer is the most simple and effective way to improve PC performance and fix programs misbehaving. It clears out temporary files and refreshes system resources. It can also install important Windows updates that can help. Ensure you are performing a restart/shutdown everyday or every couple of days. To restart your computer, click the Windows Icon bottom left - Click the power icon - Restart.


2. Closing out of Background Processes

If you have an excess of programs running in the background, this can cause system slowness. This is typically due to computer RAM getting eaten up. For example, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge consume a lot of RAM. Close out excess browser tabs and programs to free up RAM and improve system performance.


3. Free up Storage Space

Navigate to your C Drive (Click on File Explorer Click This PC, then Windows (C:)

If you see a large amount of space being taken up (> 90%), it is a good idea to delete some of the files you may not be using anymore to free up space.
