An issue popped up recently that seems to be affecting only iOS devices, not Android. If you are getting locked out of your computer seemingly at random, and you haven't recently changed your password, the problem is likely that your Microsoft apps are attempting to authenticate in the background even while you aren't using those apps--or using your phone at all. These steps will tell the apps to stop doing this in the background, but you will still receive push notifications of new emails or new chats if you are set up to receive those on your device.

  1. Let's visit your Settings app on the iPhone or iPad. The way I do this is by swiping my thumb downward from the center of the screen, bringing up a search. Type Settings into the search bar, and then tap the blue go button (or tap the Settings icon that appears).
  2. You may have to scroll down a bit to see this next part. Find and tap on General.
  3. Now tap Background App Refresh.
  4. This next part can depend on how many Microsoft 365 applications you've installed. You will want to locate and toggle off the background app refresh for every single Microsoft application, including Outlook, Teams, OneNote, OneDrive, Power Apps, Excel, and anything else that logs in using your work email address and Windows credentials. Scroll through the whole list to be sure!
